DJs come together to tackle youth violence in Bristol
My Nu Leng, DLR and Slimzee, will be coming to the city for a big charity rave.
Supporting Easton based charity Empire Fighting Chance, an organisation that works with young people in the city, the internationally known drum and bass DJs, will perform at The Underground on Friday 27th of September. Tickets start at £10.
The night is put on by independent promoters Bris-Tek and Industrial Project.
With recent tragic events in the city, and heartbreaking deaths of young people, the world of dance music is uniting to tackle knife crime. The profits raised will be donated to Empire Fighting Chance, who use a powerful combination of non-contact boxing and intensive personal support to challenge and inspire young people aged 8 to 25 to realise their unique potential. With Empire’s team of mentors, coaches and therapists, young people improve their mental health, exit gangs, return to school, get jobs and go on to lead happier and healthier lives.
Rua Tui, playing Loading Bays stage, wants the event to highlight the challenges young people face in the city, and said: “We are super stoked to be playing this event and to be supporting Empire Fighting Chance. With the cost-of-living crisis and the increasing wage gap, more and more kids are finding themselves in situations where they need help and have no one to turn to.
Seeing the difference the charity has made to so many young people in Bristol is so inspiring. These kids are the next generation and to be a part of something that can really make a difference to their future is amazing.”
Taking over The Underground, there are two stages showcasing a range of drum and bass, grime, and dubstep. Located right in the city centre beneath The Galleries shopping centre, there will be two rooms - Loading Bays and Beer Factory.
Bristol Beer Factory are supporting the event through their Brewed to Give scheme, where they give 2% of every brewery sale back to Bristol.100% of every Bristol Beer Factory drink purchased going directly towards Empire.
Empire Fighting Chance was born on Bristol’s streets, it’s an award-winning sport for development charity with inspiring coaches, therapists, and mentors. Starting in 2006, the charity has changed the lives of young people aged 8 to 24 through boxing and psychology, helping them to build a better future while improving their mental health, strengthening their relationships, and reducing destructive behaviour.
Head of Fundraising, Emily said: “Bristol’s D&B scene is legendary, and for the music community to come together to help us raise vital funds to support Bristol’s most vulnerable young people is incredibly inspiring. We are so grateful to Bris-Tek, Industrial Project and Bristol Beer Factory for their support – the funds raised at this event will directly support the young people in our city who need us most.”
